The Children's Place Preschool has been providing loving care and quality education to children in the Philadelphia area for over 24 years. Beginning with our first daycare center, SMYK Learning Center in Port Richmond in 1996, we have since expanded to many other areas of Philadelphia and now have a total of 3 main locations.

For information about our curriculum and programs, please click here. If you would like to know more regarding tuition information, please call the facility you're interested in and schedule a tour of the facility with the director.

Prior to registering, please download and fill out the forms located on the Contact page, and bring these with you on your tour or when you are interested in registering with us.

All of our locations participate in Keystone STARS, a Pennsylvania Child Care quality improvement program. Our certification means that our facilities meet or exceed Pennsylvania's standards when it comes to quality child care at that level.

In addition to accepting CCIS funding, many of our locations also now participate in the PHLpreK program. Please call a center to speak with the Director directly to find out how to participate in these programs.

about us

Beginning with our first daycare center, SMYK Learning Center in Port Richmond in 1996, we have since expanded to many other areas of Philadelphia and now have a total of 5 locations.

We are committed to providing a safe, wholesome, and developmentally appropriate environment for infants through pre-K  of all ability levels. As an educational facility, our duty is to provide a stimulating and educating experience for every child under our care that will promote his or her social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development. And above all, safety is our number one priority; we strive to create as much of a safe and nurturing environment as possible that is governed by the highest standards of care, creativity, and learning.

We believe that wholesome learning with an emphasis on creativity is necessary for children to develop socially, intellectually, and emotionally, especially since today's technology reduces a child's need to get creative in order to entertain themselves. At The Children’s Place Preschool, we believe that the skills a child needs to be successful when they are older should be developed as soon as possible. This is why creativity remains a strong element throughout our curriculum. A few examples that show this philosophy are our yearly winter performing shows, countless art projects, trips, puppet theaters, and much more.

Hello all!

As you all know, our doors have been open since the end of July. As of now, we are proud to share that we have had zero COVID-19 cases since our opening.

Moving forward, we will continue to be transparent about our COVID-19 safety precautions, and alert our families if there is a positive case within our facilities.

We also wanted to share some very promising data that has been coming out regarding the link between school openings and COVID-19 cases. We have linked a few articles below that have looked at and analyzed the data, and we hope that this promising news will help underscore the fact that school openings have largely not been associated with any COVID-19 outbreaks (of course, pending whether precautions have been taken into account at those schools):

Expanded Community COVID-19 Testing for Children
CHOP has partnered with the Philadelphia Department of Public Health to increase access to COVID-19 testing for children. They have partnered with the City Parks and Recreation Department to open the first of two new CHOP testing sites in Philadelphia on October 22 at the 48th and Woodland Recreation Center. Families with children who develop symptoms of COVID-19 can request testing through the online portal at or hotline intake at 1-800-722-7112. Testing criteria through the online portal and phone hotline remain aligned with the CHOP Outpatient COVID-19 Pathway. Criteria will adjust to new evidence-based guidance as it emerges, and the populations that they can reach with testing will adjust to test availability. The pathway will remain the easiest and most up-to-date location for current information on symptom and testing criteria. Please note: At this time, they continue to use NP swabs at their testing sites as opposed to anterior nares swabs. Additionally, they are unable to offer pre-travel testing or testing for other screening purposes. For additional information on children's COVID-19 testing, please visit:

Since our facilities have reopened, we have taken extraordinary cautions with regards to mitigating the spread of COVID-19 at our facilities.

  • All of our staff members wear masks inside the facility, without exception.
  • All preschool age children are required to wear a mask.
